My last day with dotPH
October 17, 2008
This will be my last day with dotPH. Leaving this company is the hardest and and most stressful decision I’ve done in my entire life. I’ve been here for about 11 years and 5 months (including my intern days). It’s hard to explain why I had to do this. No particular reason. It would be a long one if I’ll write them all. And it will take me the whole day to think and come up with all the reasons.
I know it would be “bitin” for some of you. If anyone wants to know some, buy me a beer perhaps and I’ll tell you everything that an alcohol can extract from me. The more beer you buy, the more scoop you’ll get. Hehehe..
To my dotPH and EMC family, thanks for the wonderful send-off party yesterday. I will surely miss you guys.
Thanks to my lovely wife for the full support and for the encouragement. It’s you who made this big change easier for me.
Another browser, another pain in the arse
September 3, 2008Oh no, not another one. I’m a web developer and working with different browsers is painful. Developers need a hug na talaga.
Anyway, Chrome is a new internet browser created by Google. Things I like with this browser are:
- display window is bigger
- clean UI
- you can close a single tab if it goes slow
- combined address and search bar (just type a url or a search engine keyword)
- task manager (open this to close frozen tab)
- incognito window (any activities done in this window will not be saved in your history, cache, cookies)
Things I don’t like:
- your saved passwords are not secured. you can’t specify a master password.
- it can’t render some favicons properly
- no plugins
- MS Windows only
Although you don’t have to test your website with Chrome if you’ve already tested it on Safari because they are both based on WebKit, problem is, I don’t do this because generally, only 1 to 2% of the market is using it. So why bother? (Sorry Safari users. Fish tayo.) If chrome gets big, then I don’t have a choice.

Hug a developer today

1st BarCamp Manila
August 22, 2008
The 1st BarCamp Manila was a huge success. The i.ph Team was there to present Google Gears integrated with i.ph and iPhone Development. I saw some familiar faces like Janette Toral and Rico Sta Cruz. I was surprised to see Arvin San Andress, a classmate in college. I didn’t recognized him at first because we were only classmates in a couple of subjects. I also talked to Mae Paulino about the template designs she is doing for i.ph.
This concept of BarCamp has been in my mind as early as April 2007. In fact, I was the first one who created the wiki page. See below.
I even asked Maricris to help me organize the event but the problem is I became so busy with work and some other things. Anyway, hats off to Jerome Gotangco for organizing this event.
I’ll post some pix later.
UPDATE: Photos are now uploaded

Google Earth Browser Plug-in
Google announced yesterday the release of the new Google Earth Browser Plug-in, which brings the full power of Google Earth to the web, embeddable within your own web site. Driven by an extensive JavaScript API, you can control the camera; create lines, markers, and polygons; import 3D models from the web and overlay them anywhere on the planet. In fact, you can even overlay your content over different planets, stars, and galaxies by toggling Sky mode, letting you build 3D Google Sky mashups. You can also enable 3D buildings with a single line of JavaScript, attach JavaScript callbacks to mouse events, fetch KML data from the web, and more.
