Yahoo! meets OpenID
January 18, 2008
Looks like Yahoo!'s OpenID is going to be big this year. i.ph is already implementing openID along with flickr/Yahoo! and Live Journal single sign-on system. But because we're not seeing a volume of i.ph users using this kind of login system and we want the login screen to be simple, we decided to take them out for the next release of i.ph and just include them when people are already aware of and knows how to use openID.
What is OpenID?
With OpenID, you create a single username and password, along with some data about you.
You can then log into an increasing number of sites without registering each time! It's also free - forever.
OpenID also provides you with a place to store your digital identity - a place where you can easily be found on the web.

Why OpenID?
Are you tired of creating a new account on every web site you use? Do you avoid new web sites because they come with yet another username and password? Do you paste stickies with password hints all over your computer monitor?
OpenID is an open technology standard that solves all of these problems. The OpenID technology will allow you to use your Yahoo! account to sign in to hundreds of web sites! And this list is growing every day…
Once you enable your Yahoo! account for OpenID access, you can simply tell any OpenID enabled web site that you are a Yahoo! user. You will be sent to Yahoo! to verify your Yahoo! ID and password and then signed in to the web site. Its that easy!

With this development, i.ph team will have to go back to the drawing board and think if it's time for us to include single sign-on on the login screen.
